| Army rescues 25 from Dalhousie bus accident site; school children from fire in Jammu | | |

The jawans of the Indian Army rescued 25 seriously injured passengers of a bus that plunged into a gorge near Dalhousie and also saved lives of children at a school which caught fire in Jammu.
Army spokesman Lt Colonel Devender Anand said on Sunday that both the incidents occurred on Saturday evening when the troops came out to their rescue. Ten passengers were killed in the bus mishap but the Army personnel managed to rescue 25 injured from the deep gorge and shifted them to different hospitals.
Lt Colonel Anand said a severe road accident occurred at Nainikhad, 20 km south of Dalhousie at around 7 pm wherein a private bus fell down almost 100 mt into a gorge after the driver lost control of the vehicle. Speedy action by the Quick Reaction Teams of Dalhousie Military Station ex Dah Division, along with Civil Administration, helped in saving lives of 25 injured passengers who were evacuated to nearby hospitals of Kakira, Banikhet, and Dalhousie.
The Army reached the accident site immediately and rescue operation continued till midnight. The Army rescue team mustered the locals for their help in the rescue work, fixing the rope up to the accident site, traffic management, search and evacuation of the injured persons and recovery of fatal casualties.
In another incident, at around 5.30 pm, a fire broke out due to a short circuit at a school in Ratnuchak Village near Jammu.
The sentry at the adjoining post reacted quickly and informed the Army authorities who immediately swung into action and sent a Quick Reaction Team to the location. Due to the concerted efforts of the Army, along with the civilians, the fire was doused within a few minutes. A major tragedy was averted due to timely action by the Army.
