In past 18 months, 6 militant attacks reported in Kishtwar

Jammu, Apr 14: The militant attack on two Special Police Officers (SPOs) of Jammu and Kashmir police in district Kishtwar on Monday has further increased the concern of security forces. In the attack on SPOs was martyred and another injured when they came under attack by assailants with axes in the upper reaches of Kishtwar district on Monday. Police said it was a militant attack.
“The two SPOs went out of the camp on patrolling duty when they were ambushed by the two militants with axes. One SPO succumbed on spot, and another was wounded critically,” police said.
After a long pause, the militant activities resumed from November 1, 2018, in district Kishtwar, which was earlier declared as a militant free district.
There have been about six terrorist attacks in Kishtwar in a one and half year. These attacks also include killing of BJP and RSS leaders. During the same period, four terrorists have also been killed by security forces and more than two dozen OGWs including one terrorist have been arrested.
On the night of 1 November 2018, the Parihar brothers were shot dead by the terrorists. The terrorists fled after killing BJP state secretary Anil Parihar and his brother Ajit Parihar.
Five months after this attack, terrorists shot dead RSS leader Chandrakat and his bodyguard at
Kishtwar district hospital on 9 April 2019. After this, the worries of the security forces increased and they started searching for terrorists.
Meanwhile, the NIA team also camped in Kishtwar to arrests the terrorists. On October 9, 2019, four militants were killed by security forces in an encounter at Baton in Ramban. Two of these terrorists were from Dachan area. The terrorists who killed the Parihar brothers were also killed.
On March 8, 2019, the terrorists snatched the rifle of DC’s bodyguard. The bodyguard lived in a rented room.
After this, on 13 September 2019, PDP district head Nasir Hussain Shaikh took the bodyguard hostage and looted the rifle. The entire family of Nasir Hussain was taken hostage by the terrorists.
On 22 December, militants attacked a convoy of security forces and two security personnel were injured in it.
On 24 July 2019, Lashkar militant Jamaladin was arrested from Doda’s Chichari. On 4 November 2019, Security forces detected eight kilograms of RDX from Kishtwar.
