Opening of annual Durbar move offices in Srinagar
Non-hiring of hotels for accommodating Jammu based move employees to save state exchequer

Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 14: The latest decision of Lieutenant Governor led state administration to open annual Durbar move offices in Srinagar from May 4 would further save the state exchequer as there would be no need of hiring the hotels for accommodating the Jammu based move-employees in Srinagar.
Every six month, over three thousands employees of move offices have to shift from winter capital to summer capital or vice-versa and to accommodate these employees and officials the state government provided them with accommodation.
The Estates Department took care of providing housing facilities to the move office employees in Jammu as well as Srinagar cities. Though the Estates department has its own quarters in both the capital cities to accommodate the employees and officials but the accommodation facilities are not sufficient due to which the department has to hire several hotels in both the cities to house these employees.
The decision of government directing the Jammu based move employees to remain in Jammu while Kashmir based employees to work from Srinagar till the review of decision after June 15, has ended up the need to hire hotels in Srinagar. “The total accommodation capacity of Estate quarters in Srinagar city is to house around 1300 employees and officials based on different criteria as per level of employees. To accommodate around 2000 remaining employees and officials in Srinagar capital city the Estate department required around 100 hotels”, an official of Estate department pleading anonymity said.
The official further said that given the new arrangement made by government, the Estate department would not hire the hotels for time being. “Every year hotels are hired by department to accommodate Jammu based employees in Srinagar and Kashmir based employees in Jammu, which eats away huge state exchequer but this time, so far department will not hire the hotels and it will save the exchequer”, the official said, adding that though the hotels were usually hired on need basis and at present there would be no need to hire the same in Srinagar.
The official further said that it depends on the upcoming months and the situation and if there would be no shifting of all Durbar move employees to Srinagar, the department would not hire hotels in Srinagar.
