Early Times Report
KATHUA, Feb 10: Col. (Retd.) Mahan Singh, Chairperson District Development Council (DDC), Kathua has sought the inclusion of Sukrala, Dhar Mahanpur and Daggar in the recently shortlisted Tourist destinations of Jammu Province.
In a statement issued to media here today, the DDC Chairman said that he has sent a communiqué to the Principal Secretary Tourism in this regard for inclusion of aforesaid areas as it will increase the overall footfall of tourists in Kathua besides giving push to tourism in these areas. He asserted that it would also provide an economic boost to the area while creating income generating avenues for the people, especially the unemployed youth of the area.
Col Mahan Singh, while appreciating the inclusion of Sarthal, Bani, Basohli, Machhedi, Balasundri and Jasrota in shortlisted tourist destinations, has sought attention of the Principal Secretary towards Sukrala, Dhar Mahanpur and Daggar asserting that these are equally important tourist destinations in Kathua District but have not been included in the said list. He said that the aforesaid three destinations are visited by tourists due to Sukrala Mata shrine besides scenic beauty and pleasant climate of Dhar Mahanpur and Daggar and as such there is a healthy potential for pilgrim tourism in these areas. Expressing resentment on exclusion of said three destinations, Col Mahan Singh said this has disappointed the public representatives as well as the locals in these areas as it will have a negative impact on the tourism value of these unique and mesmerizing locations.
Asserting that it will be a gross injustice with the people's religious sentiments as well as with the beauty of these locations, the DDC Chairman requested the Principal Secretary Tourism to reconsider the shortlisted tourist destinations and include Sukrala, Dhar Mahanpur and Daggar in the said list.
