Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 10: In order to hide its several irregularities going in Rajouri and Nowshera, the Public Works (Road and Building) Department Rajouri has been adopting delaying tactics in giving reply under RTI Act and undue harassment is being faced by the information seeker.
An RTI applicant had sought detailed information from Superintending Engineer Rajouri regarding funds received and spent in various development works taken up in Rajouri and Nowshera but despite lapse of more than four months, the reply was not provided by the department.
Although Superintending Engineer Rajouri forwarded the RTI application to the Executive Engineers of both divisions as per office letter No SER/R&B/69/278791 dated 10-11-2021 directing them to provide information with specified time, both concerned PIOs failed to give reply.
After lapse of one month, the applicant approached the Superintending Engineer, who again wrote a letter SER/R&B/3370-73 dated 10-12-2021 which reads as it has been observed that requisite information has not been provided to information seeker so far from your office as reported by the information seeker. This vogue routine of not providing information within stipulated time period under RTI Act 2005 shows the negligent attitude which is beyond tolerance and will be viewed seriously in future, it reads further.
The locals have alleged that substandard works have been done by the department as well as huge embezzlement of funds has been made and demanded vigilance inquiry. They said that records of these divisions should be examined thoroughly by the inquiry team to unearth the gross financial irregularities.
It is pertinent to mention here that Early Times had exposed the malfunctioning of PWD time to time through stories, which shows that substandard works were done thereby incidents of casualties were reported.
