Dental surgeons reject Govt’s offer of grant-in-aid, loan for setting up clinics
‘It’s lollipop, cruel joke with doctors, we want jobs not loans’

Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 10: Dental surgeons have expressed dismay over the new policy announced by the government to provide them with grant-in aid and loan to set up dental clinics in Jammu and Kashmir.
Dental surgeons while talking to a local news channel Straight Line said, “It’s cruel joke with us.”
It’s in place to mention here that the government has announced to provide Rs 2 lakhs as grant-in-aid and Rs 6 lakhs as loan to set up a dental clinic under Mission Youth. The clinics will be set up by two dental surgeons having two assistants with them.
“Before announcing this policy no suggestion was taken from us. It’s sheer injustice with the qualified professionals,” they said. “One fails to understand who are the advisors and who are framing the policies. They are sitting in their office rooms and have no idea about our sufferings. It takes five years to complete the BDS degree and it’s an expensive course.”
The dental surgeons said, “We had asked for jobs and not loans. We are the cream of the society and we are being treated shabbily.”
Dental surgeons said, “A shop in Jammu costs around Rs 40 to Rs 50 lakhs. Even if we take a shop on rent we will have to pay Rs 20,000/ to Rs 25000 as rent. How will we manage, we will have to pay rent as well as interest.”
They said, “As dental surgeon association we have rejected the scheme announced by the government. The government proposal is unacceptable. The government should accept that it has failed to provide employment and wants us to generate unemployment that too on unrealistic terms.
It’s not possible to pay rent, expenses of two doctors and two technicians.”
“We had met the Lieutenant Governor and he had acknowledged that our concern is genuine as we have not been provided with any jobs for the past 14-years. Every year more than 200 dental surgeons pass out from the colleges and during the past years the number of unemployed BDS doctors has swelled,” they added.
“This loan is nothing more than a lollypop. After studying for ten years we are being given Rs 2 lakhs. Isn’t this degradation of education,” they said, “Last posts for BDS doctors were announced in 2008 and our demand is that the government should advertise jobs for us.”
