Hurriyat activist foils bid on his life

SOPORE, June 16: A Hurriyat Conference (G) activist foiled bid on his life by some unknown pistol borne men in Sopore town of Baramulla on Tuesday afternoon.
According to sources, " Hurriyat Conference (G), activist Abdul Ahad Rehmani foiled life bid by unknown gunmen in Sopore town on Tuesday afternoon, when he was busy in his fields along with his labourers in Panzipora village of Tarazoo in Sopore town.
Some youth were roaming in suspicious circumstances close to the fields, while one person was passing directions from a vehicle parked at some distances, said sources.
Sources said that Rehmani and his Labourers chased the alleged assailants, but they disappeared from the scene.
It is pertinent to mention here that on June 9, unidentified gunmen killed an employee of health department Altaf Rehman Sheikh 45, Son of Mohammad Yousf Sheikh of New Colony in Sopore town.
A senior police official said that, the police, CRPF and army troops have cordoned off some of the areas of Sopore town. The areas which have been cordoned off are Iabalnagar and Noorbagh area.
Official said that all the areas have been sealed off and no one is allowed to move inside the town. Police have also erected nakkas at various places in the Sopore town.
While as sources said that scores of youth took to streets near main chowk and police station and started pelting stones on the men in uniform who retaliated with tear gas shells and cane charging, the protesters were raising anti India slogans. Shops, Business establishments, including banks, educational institutions and other government offices were closed in the town while transport was off the roads to protest against the serial killings by the unknown gunmen, sources said.
Meanwhile both factions of Hurriyat Conference and JKLF called for complete shutdown in Jammu and Kashmir on June 17,Wednesday, against the serial killing of civilians at the hands of unknown gunmen in Sopore.
