Early Times Report
jammu, June 16: Internal strife and struggle for power in the political space within ruling PDP has become cause for loss of at least one berth in the NDA led union cabinet at Centre. PDP leadership has not yet been able to decide as to who it will send to Centre from amongst its three MPs to be accommodated in the union cabinet. BJP high command has already agreed to give PDP one berth in the union ministry .
Sources said even as PDP managed to win all the three LS seats in last year's Parliamentary polls, the party has not yet been able to translate this edge into benefit in terms of getting at least one of its MPs adjusted as Union minister. Over three months on, the alliance with BJP in the state has given PDP power in the steering seat but it has not reaped this benefit at centre on account of its own reasons. The choice has to be made from the three MPs of party Mehbooba Mufti, Muzaffar Hussain Baig and Tariq Hamid Qarra , all of them veterans, which is the biggest reason for deferment of the decision by the Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
Sources said after PDP-BJP alliance government was formed, initially the talk was rife about strong possibility of Baig to clinch this coveted post. Baig himself was keen on that and he gave ample indications at that time that BJP top brass was also willing to take him on board. However, this did not fructify as another MP Qarra was up in arms against this move and succeeded in scuttling this to a great extent. When Baig's possibility of induction in the Union cabinet died down after some time, PDP leadership gave ample hints that Mehbooba Mufti was competent and capable to handle the Union ministry post , sources said adding that decks were almost cleared for this move by the BJP high command as well.
However, the move raised a silent revolt this time from both Baig and Qarra albeit as an internal dissent but the friction grew so strong and swiftly on the contention that coveted political berths could not be shared by the father daughter duo. In all his wisdom, in order to avoid the strife to get bigger the Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed who happens to be the patron of the party, announced deferment of the decision for now. While this has caused an uneasy silence with the two MPs-Baig and Qarra, both of whom as on date have chosen to stay aloof and away from the active political matters, the delay is resulting in J&K losing one cabinet ministry at the Centre.
