Sopore canine gave its life for peace
6/16/2015 11:45:47 PM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, June 16: Stray dogs are hated across Kashmir for the scare they have created for the past one decade in particular. People have sought their execution time and again. But the canines have survived odds including last year's devastating floods. Notwithstanding the hatred and rejection of the `crown of creation' (human beings) a Sopore canine laid down its life on Monday to evoke love, sympathy and respect for the "dog community".
Two gunmen whose identity could not be ascertained struck in Sopore yet again Monday and shot dead former JKLF militant Aijaz Ahmad Reshi. Aijaz succumbed to his injuries on way to the hospital. This is what most of the newspapers reported. What they missed is the daring chase of a dog who ultimately fell to the assassin's bullet.
Reports said while the gunmen ran away after hitting Aijaz, the humans ran for safety. But a brown dog chased them and grabbed one of them. The dog held the gunman for quite some time and inflicted a deep injury on him. But, the gunman's associate shot the dog. A bullet pierced the animal's head. The brave dog fell silent but not before giving a `tough fight for peace'. The dog was later laid to rest with honour and dignity by the locals. The dog is no more but its canines may provide some vital leads to the police. Since the dog engaged the gunman for some time, the injury must be deep enough to heal on its own. The gunman has to come out to consult a medical expert and this is when the dog's sacrifice can bear fruit.
