Jammu, June 16: The Marh Panchayat , barely 8 kilometres from the winter capital, explodes the development myth. The area sans basic amenities. According to reports, scores of families are still living without electricity and more than 35 have no potable water, informed Noor Mohammad, the sarpanch of Marh Panchyat. He said that the condition of the area has not changed even after 66 years of independence. He said the area is just 18 kilometres from the winter capital of the state where the government has ensured round the clock electric supply. "But this area is neglected and is still without electricity," he said adding there is no health care facility and educational institution in the village. Khalid Mohammad a resident of village Dung said that the village, having population of around 600 persons has been still struggling for electricity. "Our villagers are still living in Stone Age and tall claims of development have no meaning for us", he said. The residents of the villages, he said have taken up the matter with the PDD and PHE departments without success. The departments, residents said have no funds for the village. Last year, the villagers called on the MLA, Jugal Kishore Sharma. "He promised a lot but delivered nothing, "the residents said. The residents have urged the deputy chief minister to take immediate and appropriate measures. The incumbent MLA, Devender Singh Rana could not be contacted despite repeated calls from Early Times. |
