Vigilance probe: Different yardsticks for 2 IAS officers
6/16/2015 11:57:53 PM

Early Times Report
Jammu, June 16: Leaving a question mark on the working of the state vigilance organization (SVO), two IAS have been treated differently by it. While one using his influence managed to turn his approved FIR case into Regular Departmental Action (RDA), the other became a scapegoat as the case recommended for RDA was turned into FIR.
The tale of SVO succumbing to influence started in 2009 when it received a complaint that one IAS officer, now Deputy Development Commissioner (DDC) posted somewhere in Jammu province, was allegedly involved in denting public exchequer worth lakhs of rupees. Then SSP Vigilance proved the case and sent it to the Central Vigilance Office for approval which was granted later. The very case at the later stage was turned into RDA, according to sources.
This IAS officer was allegedly involved in building government complexes without putting the works to tender. Neither he deemed it fit to take approval from the government for construction of the buildings. In some cases , this IAS officer, did not realise Service Tax from the contractors, sources alleged.
The tale did not end here, as the very IAS officer, ordered the laying of floor tiles in the government buildings on his own sweet will and withdrew amount worth lakhs.
Contrary to this, another IAS officer, known for his dedication and honesty, whose case was recommended for RDA at the earlier stage was later turned into FIR. This IAS officer too is posted in Jammu at the rank of Commissioner Secretary. The different yardsticks for the two IAS officers forces common man to think if SVO dances to the tune of politicians.
