Campaign against encroachment of forest land exposes separatists, Cong, NC nexus 6/16/2015 11:45:54 PM Early Times Report JAMMU, June 16: Forest Minister Bali Bhagat is under severe attack these days. Those who are attacking and criticizing him include Kashmiri separatists of all hues, the out-of-power Congress, the rabble-rouser NC and its working president Omar Abdullah and almost everyone in the Kashmir Valley. Their attacks on the Forest Minister are not just politically motivated but also communally motivated. And only NC and separatists even some Congress leaders too came out to oppose Bali's anti-encroachment drive. These communal and separatist forces in the Valley and their cohorts in parts of Jammu province have unleashed a misinformation campaign calculated to create an impression that the Forest Minister's drive against encroachment of forest land in Jammu and areas surrounding the winter capital is directed against the followers of a particular religion. Their aim is sinister and their agenda is also sinister. Their whole campaign is abominable as it seeks to create a communal divide in Jammu which is known for democratic and secular values and where different communities share each other's happiness and sorrow. The Forest Minister's decision to evict the encroachers from the forest land is not directed against any particular community. All those who have encroached the forest land at different places will be evicted, according to him, and he needs to be patted for the much-needed drive. It's not only the members of a particular community who have encroached thousands of kanal of forest land on the outskirts of Jammu city as well as on the banks of river Tawi and elsewhere and raised unauthorized colonies, members of other communities too have not legged behind. They have also raised structures over the forest land and the state land. Their number could be small but they are there. Hence, there is no reason whatsoever to accuse he Forest Minister of targeting followers of one particular religion. It is hoped that the Forest Minister would not buckle under the communal pressure and that he would take the drive against the encroachers to its logical conclusion. He need not pay any attention to the propaganda unleashed against him by the NC and Congress leaders and Kashmiri separatists as they represent only a vested interest and a microscopic minority.
