Early Times Report JAMMU, July 24: In a case of sheer misuse of power, a veteran politician got four kanals of government land registered in his name and 12 kanals in the name of his wife on Katra-Reasi road when he was a minister in the state. He plans to construct a hotel on this land, according to official sources. Sources said when he was a minister, he asked the officials, who were under him, to find out a piece of land for him somewhere on Katra-Reasi road. While the search was on for the plot, Shrine Board issued a notification for the 16 kanals of land that was in the illegal possession of a local. The officials, who were tasked to search for the land, then approached this man and took him to the minister where a deal was allegedly struck. Sources said the minister, using his influence, got the land transferred unlawfully in the name of the man. Four kanals of it was later registered in the name of the minister and 12 kanals in the name of his wife, sources alleged. While the officials concerned knew that the land "belongs to government and has been illegally transferred in the name of the minister and his wife, all preferred to keep mum", sources alleged. The minister would soon be constructing a hotel on this land, sources said. Another ex-minister and some influential people had also constructed hotels at Katra but all of them had given them on contract, the sources added. |
