Early Times Report

Srinagar, July 24: Militant posters have surfaced in many parts of south Kashmir, asking people running beauty parlours to down shutters and girls to wear hijab. According sources, the posters purportedly from the Hizbul Mujahideen outfit appeared in Pulwama district, warning people owning beauty parlours to shut down their business units, educational institutions to make hijab compulsory in dress code and the addicts to quit drug addiction or face consequences.
"We are warning people of Hashmandar, Karimabad, Newah, Gadoora, Wahibug and Kalaan to stay away from alcohol, charas and other unnecessary immoral activities," a poster read.
"We appeal all office bearers of educational institutions of Pulwama that they should make hijab as compulsory in their institutions." These posters, sources said, were pasted on electric polls and walls at many public places across the southern district. Similar kind of posters had appeared in many other places in Pulwama in past few days. However, security forces immediately after seeing such threat posters removed them.
Importantly, recruitment by militant outfits is at its peak in four districts of south Kashmir, where according to police sources around 65 youth joined militant ranks mostly Hizbul Mujahideen in the last six to seven months. Besides, around 40 militants are also believed to be active in the area. "Scores of people in different villages of Pulwama are running beauty parlours. However, if they are threatened like this and forced to shut down their business units it will only add to the number of unemployment people," sources said. It is for the first time that militants have threatened people associated with beauty parlour business. And the threat posters have surfaced at a time when suspected militants resumed their attacks on mobile network installations in the Valley.
