Coordination Committee foils Congress attempt of highjacking AIIMS agitation
7/25/2015 12:38:02 AM

Amidst allegations that two Jammu based former ministers from Congress party had given Rs 15 lacs to a former president of Jammu Bar Association for fueling the ongoing agitation for AIIMS in Jammu, theCoordination Committee today foiled the alleged attempt of highjacking its non-political struggle.
In a high voltage drama, Congressmen including three former ministers and senior leaders, virtually had to face embarrassment when the Coordination Committee members did not permit them to sit on the dais of ongoing dharna venue near Tawi Bridge, here today.
According to the eyewitnesses, members of the Coordination Committee also did not allow Congress leaders to deliver speeches at the venue and made it clear that they would not permit any political outfit to highjack the ongoing agitation for establishment of AIIMS in Jammu. The episode took place this morning when a number of Congress leaders and activists, including PCC senior vice-president Sham Lal Sharma, former minister Raman Bhalla, Mula Ram and others, reached at the Coordination committee dharna venue after holding a strong protest near the Press Club Jammu.
As soon as the Congress leaders tried to proceed towards the dais, some CC members raised their objection against the same and said that no political party could be allowed to highjack the non-political struggle of Jammu people. Even as a CC member tried to hit out at Congress by alleging that the former ministers had done nothing for Jammu during their regime, the Congressmen did not react and preferred to avoid any confrontation, witnesses said.
Instead of resenting the Coordination Committee behavior, Sham Lal Sharma even pacified other Congressmen to appreciate the sentiments of CC members to keep the ongoing agitation non-political in nature. Later the Congress leaders and workers also accompanied the CC members in observing a brief road blockage near the venue, witnesses added.
Even as Congress has been openly supporting the Coordination Committee, which comprises members of various social organizations in Jammu, sources said that decision to keep political persons away from the movement has been taken in view of some allegations that the entire agitation was being fueled by opposition parties to defame ruling BJP.
