'Nirmal Singh lost an opportunity to become Jammu's hero'
Should Dy CM have resigned on July 20?

Early Times Report
Jammu, July 24: In the line of fire for his failure to honour the commitment he made to the AIIMS coordination committee in Jammu last month urging them to suspend their agitation over the issue of getting AIIMS for Jammu, many including the well wishers of Dy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh opine that he should have tendered his resignation on July 20, the deadline he fixed for himself to get AIIMS restored to Jammu.
Nirmal Singh has been let down by the national leadership of his own party as it failed to announce the hyped economic package for Jammu and Kashmir of which AIIMS to Jammu was likely to be a part. Sources within the party disclose that the central leadership had assured that the mega package would soon be announced and AIIMS to Jammu would be part of the announcement, but due to start of Monsoon session of the Parliament, which is critical for the NDA Government, the leadership was busy in devising strategies to counter a hostile Opposition and the announcement could not be made.
"Dy CM was totally dependent on the central leadership for getting the announcement with regards to AIIMS made, but they had their own priorities and in the process, he had to face embarrassment in front of his own people" said a senior party functionary in Jammu. He however added that Dr. Nirmal Singh should have tendered his resignation and joined the ongoing agitation as such a move would have improved his image and esteem amongst the people of Jammu to a different level. "It would have silenced the Coordination Committee which has occupied centre stage in Jammu and is threatening to relegate BJP to the margin" he said.
"Tendering his resignation would only have been of symbolic significance as his resignation would not have been accepted and it would have only made him a hero in public eye" said another office bearer of the state BJP. "It was Nirmal Singh who first reacted to the issue by saying that AIIMS was allocated to Kashmir and it cannot be snatched back and the statement had evoked lot of ill will against him in Jammu. This was time not only to regain his lost position, but also to reclaim respect and honour amongst the constituency he represents" he added.
Now that the self fixed deadline has expired and the AIIMS Coordination committee has intensified its campaign by announcing another 3-day Jammu Bandh, questions are being asked, if Dy CM has lost an opportunity to win Jammu's hearts?
