| GDC Srinagar again in news for wrong reasons | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Dec 18: Government Dental College and hospital (GDC) continues to be in news for wrong reasons.
As per reliable information available with Early Times as many as ten dental surgeons who actually are the employees of Directorate of Health Kashmir are attached with Government Dental College and hospital (GDC) Srinagar from the last many years.
The Principal Govt Dental College Srinagar has ostensibly retained a dozen of his favorite dental surgeons who were deputed to Govt Dental College Srinagar many years ago, beyond their limit of positing, which is in utter contravention to various notifications of administrative department of Health and Medical Education.
There are clear orders from Commissioner Secretary Health & ME stating that all doctors of health department should be relieved and report back to director health department (Kashmir / Jammu) so that they deliver their duty in the health department which is their parent department , as the patients are suffering in district and sub district hospitals due to dearth of Dental Surgeons.
Some blue-eyed dental surgeons are from health department and not of medical education department and are being retained in GDC since a decade and thus blocking all the posts of post graduate doctors who are supposed to work as senior registrars in the dental college so that they render better services as specialists. It is pertinent to mention that Government Dental College Srinagar comes under the administrative control of Medical Education Department and the Dental Surgeons belong to Directorate of Health Kashmir.
"If these Dental Surgeons have been appointed to serve rural areas why are they illegally attached with GDC Srinagar while as people in rural areas are left to the mercy of quacks and dental technicians, " said a Dental Surgeon working in directorate of health.
In addition the principal advertises vacancies of senior registrars absolutely on his own and also posts the same in various departments arbitrarily, with a well planned and thought out scheme of providing opportunities to his pre-set list of favorites, so as to add to the battery of his henchmen, sources alleged.
It is worth mentioning that the Principal in past has remained in news as he was indicted by the State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) for causing loss amounting to almost Rs 50 lakh to the state exchequer by purchasing several dental equipment on much exorbitant rates from some suppliers after getting illegal gratification .
Government is yet to initiate action against the tainted principal in-spite of the fact that an FIR stands registered against him.
The Vigilance Organisation according to reliable sources has forwarded Principal's name to General Administration Department (GAD) to seek prosecution sanction under J&K Prevention of Corruption Act and sources at GAD say that sanction may be given very soon as the matter is being discussed at a very high level. |
