Srinagar, Dec 18: The BJP in Jammu and Kashmir has invited trouble for itself in the state over the demand of declaring October 26, celebrated as 'Accession Day', a State Government holiday. Sources told Early Times that the file pertaining to the subject has been gathering dust from the past two months and the non- serious approach by some BJP leaders are proving counter productive to the party itself in the state.
Sources revealed that there has been no serious discussion demanded by the BJP leadership over the issue of declaring October 26 as the state holiday due to which there has been no breakthrough into the matter.
The BJP leadership not pursuing the issue has led to the delay in the issuance of the list pertaining to the gazetted holidays for the year 2016. "In the routine coarse, the list should have been made public but with no discussions on whether to declare October 26 as the gazetted holiday is acting as a major impediment in the process," one of the officials told Early Times while pleading anonymity.
He said that in October the file related to the issue was sent by the GAD for the final approval but as there have been no discussions initiated by the BJP leadership over it, there is stagnation at large being witnessed.
One of the PDP leaders said that the issue has never been raised by the BJP in any government meet and that there was no formal communication or discussion sought by the party over the subject. "It is likely that there is some confusion even within the BJP over the issue. They have not tried to sort out the issue," he said, adding that there are various dimensions to the issue and it has to be deliberated by both the coalition partners.
Interestingly, after making such a demand, not even a single BJP leader in the coalition raised the issue publically, hence giving notion about it being pushed under the carpet with the deliberate attempt. Whether the demand of declaring October 26 as the state holiday would continue to remain in limbo is yet to be seen. So far, the BJP has kept mum, hinting of surrendering the pitch, it earlier raised amid much fanfare.
On this day (Oct 26) in 1947, the erstwhile Dogra ruler Maharaja Hari Singh signed Instrument of Accession with Union of India.
