PDP, BJP have edge over NC, Cong: Analysts

Srinagar, Apr 8: Around 3 lakh youth are likely to cast their votes for the first time during forthcoming Lok Sabha elections and political analysts see an edge for the PDP and BJP.
Despite NC winning all the three seats in Kashmir in 2009 elections, the repeat of the performance seems doubtful. Similarly the Congress which won two seats in Jammu is on a slippery wicket in Jammu.
Analysts say the vote bank of PDP had increased by 7 to 9 percent in Kashmir and a slight move in Jammu region too as compared to its 9% votes during 2002 assembly elections.
Likewise Bhartiya Janata Party which fetched around 10% vote share in previous Lok Sabha elections is expected to gain this time too mostly in Jammu and Ladakh Divisions and though BJP has least chances of winning on any seat in Kashmir division, however its candidates in South and North Kashmir will only cut votes of National conference candidates.
Peoples Democratic party which has not only succeeded in strengthening its cadre in whole of Jammu division over the years but also in Kashmir division has significantly increased its strength in Historically National Conference dominated Srinagar District by including some known political faces from both Men and woman folks in the party, besides PDP has succeeded in enrolling at least three out of six top Brass candidates of Congress who were defeated either by NC or PDP candidates with just few hundred votes during last assembly elections in their constituencies. Analysts believe that compared to BJP and PDP, NC and Congress unequivocally lost its vote share since previous assembly elections as during last assembly elections of 2008, National Conference could only secure 20 to 22 % of votes as compared to around 25% per cent during 2002 elections when PDP ended with around 9% votes.
The analysts believe the AAP, AIP< PC and others will only cut NC's share of votes. Pertinently iot is going to a straight fight between NC and PDP in Kashmir Valley. It is NC's Mehboob Beigh versus PDP president Mehbooba Mufti in South Kashmir,in North Kahsmir Muazffar Hussain Beigh will be against Sharif-u-Din Shariq and in central Kahsmir parliamentary constituency it will be Dr Farooq Abdullah against Tariq Hamid Qara.
