POONCH, Apr 8: Over-whelming response of former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed during his tour to hilly districts of Poonch and Rajouri is a warning signal for ruling National Conference and its coalition partner Congress. In all his rallies from Rajouri to Poonch, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was accorded historic receptions at all places.
By aggressively campaigning for the party candidate Yash Pal Sharma, PDP has already made election of the Jammu-Poonch Parliamentary seat at triangular but reception accorded to Mufti and huge turnout in his rallies is an indication that in the coming Assembly elections PDP is going to sweep this hilly belt which comprised of seven Assembly segments.
PDP candidate Yash Pal Sharma, who himself belongs to Poonch, has successfully consolidated his position in these two districts. He has effectively and intelligently and with his hardwork played the card of a native of Poonch and emerged as a strong contender for Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha seat.
"Whatsoever may be the outcome of Lok Sabha elections but one thing is clear that Yash Pal Sharma has laid strong foundation of PDP in Jammu province", a senior PDP leader said and said that with the support of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Mehbooba Mufti, Sharma has thrown a serious challenge to both National Conference and Congress in this belt.
In 2008 Assembly elections, PDP had won two seats namely Mendhar and Darhal from Poonch-Rajouri belt and lost Rajouri seat by a narrow margin but in the present situation PDP is a strong force in all the seven Assembly segments for this belt. Congress had won Rajouri and Surankote Assembly segments while as National Conference had won Nowshera, Kalakote and Poonch segments.
Not only in Muslim belt, PDP has also consolidated its position in Hindu dominated areas like Nowshera and Kalakote segments. It was result of the team work of PDP that party is going to get good number of votes from Hindu majority areas also.
Poonch-Rajouri and erstwhile Doda district is going to play a decisive role in formation of next Government in State so PDP has achieved its first target by fielding Yash Pal Sharma as party candidate for Jammu-Poonch Parliamentary seat. |
