Jammu, Apr 8 : Even though the people of Doda region get respite from the continuous rainfall that has created havoc among the local populace, but the 110 KM Kishtwar -Batote National Highway continues to give sleepless nights to the National Highway police, local administration and the commuters who traveled on this road as the continuous road blockade due to landslide, sinking of road, slips and hanging rocks has become order of the day. As per the details available with "Early Times" the Batote-Kishtwar National Highway today got blocked at 6th Kilometer as a portion of road washed away due to heavy overnight rains causing lot of inconvenience to the people, beside there is a miraculous escape for a Tata Magic vehicle loaded with vegetables. Road stretch at Malori was also badly affected, besides at Pul Doda and few other places between Kishtwar to Thatri, particularly at Shalimar where a WagnoR bearing registration No. JK17-2417 was hit by a shooting stone as a result of which the vehicle got badly damaged, but the passengers on board escaped unhurt. The student community also suffered badly due to continuous road blockade. "I reach at bus stand Jammu early morning to board a vehicle for Kishtwar, but I was told that the road was blocked and no traffic is allowed on the said road" Said a student Ajay Sen. Ajay said the road blockade for Doda Kishtwar has been a routine matter causing lot of inconvenience to the people traveling on this road. He said that the government must initiate some concrete steps for proper maintenance of Batote-Kishtwar road so that the people living in these twin Districts of the state could not suffer. In response to the question of reports of use of sub standard material by GREF in construction of Batote-Kishtwar National Highway, senior officer in Vigilance department said that the department has no jurisdiction over the issue as the same falls within the ambit of CBI.
