Night temperature drops; Gulmarg colder than Leh | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Apr 8 : Night temperature drops again due to fresh snowfall in upper reaches and rain in plains yesterday in the Kashmir valley, Gulmarg was colder than Leh. However, border town of Kargil was coldest in the region after the minimum temperature dropped further and settled at minus 4 degrees Celsius. A Meteorological department spokesman said here this afternoon that light rain or thundershowers would occur at isolated places over Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours. There will be no large change during subsequent two days, he said.However, Met Director Sonam Lotus said weather will remain dry in Srinagar, where the maximum temperature was 10.2 degrees, eight degree below normal yesterday. The minimum temperature also witnessed a drop as icy cold winds continued in the city after 8.4 mm rainfall. Against yesterday's 6.4 degrees, the night temperature in Srinagar was 5.5 degrees, two notches below normal. The spokesman said the sky would be partly cloudy and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 14 degrees and 3 degrees respectively during the next 24 hours in Srinagar.There was still no respite from the cold in Kargil where the minimum temperature dropped further and settled at minus 4 degrees against yesterday's minus 3 degrees. However, at Leh the minimum temperature was 1.2 degrees, warmer than Gulmarg and Pahalgam. He said the sky would be partly cloudy at Leh and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 9 degrees and one degrees respectively tomorrow. Because of fresh snowfall on upper reaches and rain in plains, the night temperature dropped in the valley. At Gulmarg it was minus 2.4 degrees, about three degrees below normal while at famed tourist resort of Pahalgam the minimum temperature was minus 1.6 degrees, about four degrees below normal.Qazigund recorded 0.8 degrees night temperature, five notches below normal and Kokernag 0.9 degrees, four degree below normal. However, at Kupwara in north Kashmir, the night temperature was 6.3 degrees, a notch above normal. |
