| NC has become huge liability for people, state: Baig | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Apr 8: Senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Muzzafar Hussain Baig today said the change is in the air and now it is very obvious that people of Jammu and Kashmir want to dump the National Conference, Congress coalition which has got nothing but miseries to the people.
Addressing various roadside meetings in Sangrama segment of Baramulla constituency Baig said every time NC and Congress have joined hands in the state the people have paid a heavy price be it in 1987, when they rigged elections and forced the youth to pick up guns and now when the young people have been forced to pick up stones to raise their voices against the cruelty resorted by the two parties.
He said NC has completely abandoned its regional character and they have completely merged with the Congress where they feel now comfortable to unleash repression upon people.
"NC knows that it can't survive independently anymore as a political party and has therefore merged itself with Congress. That is why they are not concerned about the issues of people," said Baig adding NC has become a huge liability for the people of the state and sooner it goes out of power, the people will feel a sense of relief and achievement. He said the NC has brought only disaster and sell-out of the state's interests and resources through repeated tie-ups with either Congress or BJP and it only strengthened the instruments of repression to silence the opposition, rig elections and deny people their fundamental rights, whether they ruled the state independently or in coalition with BJP or Congress.
He said if voted to parliament the PDP will strive to build a national consensus on Kashmir issue by involving various shades of public and political opinion both in and outside the parliament so that the prevailing mistrust between New Delhi and Kashmir is minimized and there is a forward movement on Kashmir resolution.
He said the NC has never been serious about the state and its people and it has always played a damaging role through its repeated sell-outs, U-turns and treachery with the result there has been no headway in resolving the Kashmir issue over the last 60 years.
He said emergence of PDP in the political sphere of the state resulted in a change in the political discourse about Kashmir issue, which was otherwise seen only through security, military perspective. |
