Early Times Report Reasi, Apr 11 : Annual three day Baisakhi festival to be held at Dera Baba is commencing from April 12, 2014 and the district administration in collaboration with Dera Baba Banda Bahadur Gurdwara committee is gearing up the festival. Every year a three day mela is organized on the eve of Baisakhi at Dera Baba Banda Bahadur, a 300 years old historic gurudwara that is situated on the bank of Chenab River in Reasi. The premises of the gurudwara have the samadhi of Banda Bahadur, the favorite Jathedar of Shri Guru Gobind Singh. Besides having ashes of Banda Bahadur, the shrine also has an arrow, a huge sword and some weapons given to Banda by Guru Gobind Singh. Annually, around 30,000 devotees from across the India and abroad visit the shrine especially during the occasion of Baisakhi Mela. Attractions of the mela will include Akhand Path, Shabad Kirtan, Wrestling competition, cultural processions. District administration has ensured facilities like drinking water, proper cleansing of the site besides First Aid camp by Health Department, uninterrupted power supply during the Mela days. Likewise, police department would ensure adequate security arrangements at mela site and the entire surrounding is given a festive look. |
