Hurriyat activists arrested for poll boycott campaign

BARAMULLA, Apr 11: Prior to issuance of Parliamentary Election Notification for North Kashmir's (Baramulla) Constituency, police has arrested two activists of separatist group 'Hurriyat Conference' for spreading poll boycott campaign posters in Sheeri block of Baramulla district.
Police sources said that two activists of Hurriyat Conference (G) were arrested by a police team of Sheeri police station while pasting posters depicting poll boycott slogans from Sheeri to Hewan some 7 kilometers from main town Baramulla on Thursday evening.
Official sources identified the arrested as Bashir Ahmad Soleah son of Ghulam Mohammad Soleah of Kanli Bagh and Ghulam Mohammad Bangi son of Ghulam Ahmad Bangi of Ganaie Hamam old Town in Baramulla. The duo according to sources are strong supporters of Hurriyat Conference (G), lead by Hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who had called for boycott for both upcoming parliamentary elections and Assembly elections in state.
They said, both were arrested on a specific information from the spot while pasting poll Boycott posters while police was keeping tight eye on the arrested since poll activities started.
Senior superintendent police Baramulla, Suhail Munawar Mir told Early Times that police arrested both the activists of Huriyat separatist (G) has lodged (FIR.
"We have registered an FIR into the matter and all the material containing poll boycott posters were seized from the spot," Mir said.
S.H.O Sheeri Nasir Ahmad Bhat said," we have arrested the duo for pasting of Election Boycott Posters in Sheeri Baramulla and have registered an FIR under number 21/2014 under section 132B of Representation of Peoples Act, 171c and 171f RPC in this regard".
The arrest of duo was made at time when notification for North Kashmir (Baramulla) Parliamentary Constituency will be issued today. It was earlier announced by the District Election Officer Baramulla, Farooq Ahmad Lone that notification will be issued on April 12 and last date for filing nomination is April 19. The polling for Baramulla Lok Sabha seat will be held on May 7.
