Police solves 'Garkhal blind murder' case within 24 hours

Jammu, Apr 15: The police have solved a blind murder within 24 hours wherein one Mohd Abdullah alies Dulla S/O Fakar Din R/O Fatu Kotli (Garkhal) was found dead tied with ropes and sand bags from the banks of the Chenab at Garkhal on Monday. A case against FIR No 73/2014 U/S 302 RPC stands registered at P/S Akhnoor in this regard.
During the course of investigation, the Police rounded up some suspects and one of them when put on sustained interrogation admitted to have murdered the said Mohd Abdullah. "The accused has been identified as Rahim-ud-Din S/O Sayed Alam R/O Panjipara P/S Goyalpokhar Distt. Uttar Dinajpur, West Bengal, police said. Police spokesperson said that during the course of investigation it was revealed that the accused working as Mason in Jammu is staying for the last many years at Fatu Kotli (Garkhal) and has a live-in relationship with one Hamida Begum who had earlier been married to one Fayaz Alam R/O Islampur, West Bengal but lately had abandoned him two years ago alongwith her kids. "The accused wanted Hamida Begum to get divorce from Fayaz Alam, which was not agreed upon by Fayaz, police said while quoting the disclosures of accused. "Meanwhile the deceased who was married to the elder sister of Hamida Begum namely Kohinoor Begum struck a deal with the accused to get Hamida Begum divorced for a consideration of Rs 10, 000/- to be paid by the accused and allowed Hamida Begum to travel to Punjab in first week of March 2014 with the deceased and his wife Kohinoor Begum to get the needful done," investigation revealed. Police said, "the accused revealed that he came to know in mid March, 2014 that Mohd Abdullah and Hamida Begum returned back leaving Kohinoor Begum in Punjab and Hamida Begum has been living in a rented room at Beli-Charana which was arranged by the deceased." "The accused suspected Hamida Begum of having illicit relationship with the deceased and got infuriated. On 30 March 2014 evening, the accused called the deceased in his hutment located at Fatu-Kotli (Garkhal) on the pretext of making the payment of the promised sum of Rs 10, 000/-. Both had dinner together and the accused asked the deceased to stay for the night as he was expecting somebody with the amount the next morning. However, the accused got up at 2: 00 AM and slit the throat of the sleeping Mohd Abdullah with a sharp knife who died on spot and then packed the dead in a blanket, shifted it to the nearby rivulet where he tied it with sandbags and threw it in the water. "Meanwhile after disclosure of the accused, Police have recovered the weapon of offence, the blood stained clothes and the Mobile/Sim of the deceased, police said adding, "the accused has been arrested and shall be produced before the court tomorrow." Police spokesperson also added that case has been worked out by Inspr Pardeep Sharma, SHO P/S Akhnoor under the supervision of Farooq Qaiser, KPS, SDPO Akhnoor.
Meantime Atul Kumar Goel, IPS, SSP Jammu and M L Kaith, SP (Rural) Jammu have appreciated the role of prompt action of Akhnoor Police in solving the blind murder case in less than 24 hrs.
