Farooq dances for his workers in Budgam village | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Apr 15: Much to the amusement of National Conference supporters, party patron Farooq Abdullah did it again. The '77-year-old' flamboyant son of NC founder Shiekh Mohammad Abdullah surprised folk dancers when he joined them and danced to their tunes in Central Kashmir's Budgam district today. Abdullah was in Rawalpur Khansahab to address an election rally. After the culmination of rally, Kashmir folk dancers started beating drums while Farooq Abdullah came down from the stage and danced to tunes of 'bande paethar' (folk dance), a report said. Clad in Pheran- a closed traditional cloak- the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir danced with the members of the troupe for few minutes much to the entertainment of his supporters and others present. Later talking to reporters, Farooq said that Government is not going to extend lease of Tosamaidan to Army as it is mulling to provide an alternative firing range for Army somewhere else. "Tosamaidan would be developed as tourist resort. We are not going to extend the lease to the Army. People of Tosamaidan have suffered a lot and time has come we develop it as a tourist resort," Abdullah said. In 2010, Farooq, the Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, had turned an 'entertainer' when he sang and danced non-stop for over 45 minutes and made others join him at a party in the lawns of the newly constructed official bungalow of the Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu. A report had said that the tall and handsome former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir won the hearts of the select gathering when he picked up the microphone from a local singer and started singing the popular numbers of old melodious Hindi films one after another on Saturday night. He had started with "Ram kare ayisa ho jaye" (Milan) and finished with "Diwana Hua Badal" (Kashmir Ki Kali) imitating the style of Shammi Kapoor. |
