Militants threaten to blow off Railway network | CM, Ministers, religious places on terror radar | | Sumit Sharma JAMMU, Apr 15: Rattled by the ensuing democratic exercise across the country including Jammu and Kashmir, militants have threatened to target Railway network in the state. A threatening letter to Railways authorities has alerted intelligence agencies to up their antenna to thwart any nefarious design as the threatening letter has been issued two days ahead of the 2nd phase of Lok Sabha election in Jammu and Kashmir. A letter purportedly by terror outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba has threatened to blow up Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir railway stations and prominent temples including Raghunath temple and SMVD Shrine in Jammu. In the letter to Pathankot Railway Station Superintendent, written supposedly by LeT area commander Karim Ansari , the outfit has threatened to blow up the railway stations in Punjab including Gurdaspur, Pathankot and Batalla, police said, quoting the letter received by the railway official. In the threatening letter, the name of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Punjab Chief Minister , Ministers of Jammu and Kashmir have been specifically mentioned as their targets. After receiving the letter, the station master Pathankot sent the copy of the same to the SSP, DC Pathankot besides concerned senior officers of Firozpur Division. Railway authorities have also sent a similar copy to the SSP GRP, Jammu. Meanwhile, SSP GRP, Jammu Shiv Kumar when contacted confirmed the same and said that security has been beefed up to thwart any untoward incident. He further said that senior police officers have also been apprised about the threatening letter for necessary security arrangements. Meanwhile, militants attacked residences of two ruling National Conference workers in downtown Srinagar city by hurling petrol bombs. However, no one was hurt in the incidents that took place midnight last night, police said. The ultras hurled petrol bombs at the residences of Mohammad Shafi Lone and Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, both National Conference workers, in Jamalata locality of the old city, the police said. Although no one was injured in the bomb attacks, the glass panes of both the houses were shattered due to the blasts, the police said. They said preliminary investigations have revealed that at least three petrol bombs were hurled by the ultras. Militants have stepped up attacks on political workers in Kashmir recently as the Valley prepares to go to Lok Sabha polls from April 24. Militants also attacked the residence of Youth National Conference leader Yawar Masoodi at Khrew in Pulwama district on Sunday, killing two cops, before they were eliminated by the security forces. |
