Kishtwar fumes over minor's rape | One arrested amid widespread protests | | Asif Iqbal Naik
Kishtwar, June 9: In a shocking incident, a 13 year old Gujjar girl (name withheld), a student of 5th class was allegedly gang raped by two accused in Eidgah area of Drabshala some 25 KM from Kishtwar. The incident sparked widespread protests in the area which continued till reports last came in. According to reports, the victim was intercepted by the two accused identified by the police sources as Sudesh Kumar son of Karan Singh resident of village Shandri Drabshala and Nitin Chand son of Saroop Chand resident of village Gujjar Khotan Drabshala and committed rape on the her. As per the victim, she was out of home for disposing of waste material at nearby Eidgah area where both the accused after finding her alone overpowered her and committed rape on her at an isolated place. The incident came to fore around 6.45 PM when the girl was noticed by the few local people in upset condition at an isolated place. After inquiring from the victim, she narrated the whole incident to her caretaker who brought the matter into the notice of police. As soon as the incident comes to fore, the large number of people assembled at Drabshala and held strong protest against this heinous crime demanding arrest of the accused involved behind the rape. The protesters led by local Sarpanch Shahid Rashid Mattoo and a local contractor Haji Mohammad Ayoob Mattoo block the Kishtwar-Jammu Highway. The protesters also went on rampage before the elders intervened and pacified the situation. Sensing trouble Superintendent of Police Kishtwar Sanjay Kotwal, Dy. SP HQ Nazir Ahmed Ganie and officials of District administration immediately rush to the spot and assured the agitating people that stern action will be taken against the culprits. Police also informed the agitating people that one among the two accused has been arrested and the man hunt has been launched to nab the other accused. The arrested accused was identified as Nitin Chand. Meanwhile police has registered a rape case against the two accused and had started its investigation. The medical examination of the girl is yet to be conducted as police fail to shift the victim to District Hospital Kishtwar due to prevailing law and order situation. |
