Avinash Azad Jammu, July 27: Anger is brewing among the aspirants, having higher qualification in Remote Sensing and GIS, against the eligibility criteria fixed by department for the posts of Assistant Professors, advertised recently. Moreover, in blatant violation of University Grant Commission (UGC) norms, for the posts of Assistant Professors, eligibility criteria has been set as PG Diploma in Remote Sensing instead of PhD or National Eligibility Test (NET). According to recent advertisement issued by University of Jammu, a total of 22 posts of Assistant Professors were advertised and the applicants were asked to submit forms before August, 17, 2014. "In the list, two posts of Assistant Professors in Department of Remote Sensing and GIS were also advertised but surprisingly, PG diploma in Remote Sensing was sought as eligibility criteria, which is a violation of UGC norms", a research scholar said. He further alleged that though the JU authorities had sought Master’s Degree in Remote Sensing and GIS/Geology/Geography/ Botany/ Environmental Sciences or Geo Informatics. Moreover, the clause III in the eligibility criteria is under scanner. "The Clause III is read as Desirable: PG Diploma in Remote Sensing and GIS. (In case of candidates with Master Degree other than Remote Sensing and GIS/Geo Informatics. The criteria has been tailored to adjust a blue eyed candidate, who is presently working on contractual basis in department and has PG Diploma in Remote Sensing instead of Degree", the scholar said. He further alleged that the blue eyed candidate, who had lost Jammu University Research Scholars Executive Association (JURSEA) elections few years back, had also done specialization in Remote Sensing. "Though the department in Jammu University had been opened nearly six years back but there are numerous students across country, who have done Master’s Degree in Remote Sensing and also Ph.D, but it has become a culture in University to adjust some blue-eyed Professors", scholars alleged. The aspirants further said that it was also against the UGC norms, which unequivocally maintained that for Assistant Professor post, the minimum eligibility criteria must be Master’s Degree in same subject but flouting UGC norms, JU administration twisted rules. A scholar preferring not to be named said that though University had finalized the eligibility criteria few days back for Assistant Professor posts but the blue-eyed had been adjusted as contractual lecturer in the department, despite the fact that did not possess even a Master’s Degree in Remote Sensing. |
