Early Times Report

JAMMU, Juy 28: Believe it or not but 600 meters from police station, Poonch residents have been looted by a marketing company which until the other day promised to deliver everything under one roof at nominal rates.
The company named "Welcome Home Needs" had opened up an office in the vicinity of Police Station in Poonch town a few months ago. According to sources, Poonch Municipal Committee (PMC) had permitted the company to open up this showroom without seeking a primary background check. They added that not only municipality but district administration too had helped the company in setting up the office.
Sources maintained that the company would book orders by taking 40 percent of the price of the article booked. They further said that after the booking was done, they would promise to deliver the booked item within 14 days. The company began by delivering booked goods within 14 days and that too at exceptionally low prices, thus managing to attract more and more customers, added the sources.
They disclosed that this all was happening under the nose of Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP).
Sources further said that they delivered the first two lots of bookings within the promised period. People were happy to find out that here was a company which was offering costly goods at exceptionally low prices and hence, they got huge orders when they opened up the booking lines for third time, added the sources.
From Air Conditioners to Laptops, sources said that the company would book everything promising to deliver the same within 14 days at around 40 percent less the original price of the good. Citing an example, a customer Wajahat Bukhari said that the company pamphlets showed quality HP laptop costing around Rs.40,000 being sold at around RS. 21,000. "I immediately booked the laptop and even paid the booking amount," added Bukhari.
He added that the company had promised to deliver the laptop within 14 days but a day before the 14th day when they were supposed to make the delivery; they left the town overnight leaving behind no trace. Bukhari said that the company initially won confidence of the people in the town and when they saw huge response; they collected the booking amount and ran away.
Another man who had booked an Air Conditioner said that he gave the booking amount on seeing that the company had opened up its office at a few yards from the police station. "It takes a lot of courage to cheat someone publicly outside a police station. Either they did this in connivance with police or they had blessings of someone from the district administration. It is impossible to rob people in such a manner in which this company did," added the aggrieved Shahnawaz.
Regarding the receipts the company used to issue, Shahnawaz said that only address on them is of their office in Poonch i.e. M/S Welcome Home Needs, Tehzeeb Complex., Ward no 11, Mohalla Shankar Nagar, Near J&K Bank, S.K.Bridge Poonch. Apart from this local address, the company had kept tin no: 01471211503 alongwith two mobile numbers i.e. 9018756659 and 9086348319 on the receipt. Both the numbers are in switched off mode.
Beyond this, there is nothing on the receipt about head office of this company. Some terms and conditions have been written on the receipt but there is no mention of any other address or office, added Shahnawaz. He further said that police is in no mood to inquire into the wrong doings of this company which has runaway after collecting huge money from people of Poonch. Neither Deputy Commissioner Sajjad Khan nor the SSP Shamsher Hussain responded to repeated calls of Early Times.
