Rousing reception awaits Karra at MM Bagh on Eid | Where will NC MLA offer prayers? | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, July 28: The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is gaining popularity with every passing day especially in Srinagar which traditionally has been a strong bastion of National Conference (NC). A posh area in Srinagar, Magarmal Bagh which is home to PDP Member Parliament, Tariq Karra and NC MLA for Batmaloo, Irfan Shah has a beautiful park which came up in 2008 when Tariq Karra was the Finance Minister. For unknown reasons, or most probably because of Amarnath Land row, no plaque stone was put in place. The PDP rule ended with the land row and Karra lost Batmaloo to Shah in the elections. Karra was forgotten and so was the park. Karra, however, turned a giant killer in the recently concluded Parliamentary elections by defeating NC Patron Dr Farooq Abdullah. The NC polling agent in Magarmal Bagh says that a few votes (seventeen) were polled in favour of National Conference. Karra got the rest. As many as 75 votes were polled in two polling stations housed in Rani Mandir complex. Karra's victory not only derailed the NC but won the PDP a number of supporters in Srinagar. Karra's growing popularity in the area came to fore yesterday when people got a plaque stone for the Magarmal Bagh Park. The stone was put in place today and Karra will formally inaugurate the Park after Eid congregation tomorrow. The words on the plaque stone merit a mention. "Koukab Park: Inaugurated by Minister for Finance and Urban Development, Hon'ble Tariq Hamid Karra on June 9, 2008." The inauguration, it is believed will be a grand function. Workers from various parts of the city are expected to make the function a huge success. However, NC MLA Irfan Shah is in for real trouble tomorrow morning. Where will he offer Eid prayers? |
