Indifferent PDD endangers human life | Fails to repair wires, poles | | Shakeel A Khan
BUDGAM, Aug 16: With the Power Development Department doing nothing to improve the infrastructure, there are apprehensions that the situation may turn ugly at some point of time in the near future. The department doesn't seem to be concerned as it has miserably failed to go for the repair of the wires and the poles, which are there for a long time now. The dangerously overhanging high tension and low tension wires pose a potential threat to the lives and the property of the people. This has put a question mark on the performance of the department. People remain very scared; in fact they exercise maximum caution while moving from one place to another. "The Power Development Department has laid the wires in our area many years before which have decayed with the passage of time and there are always the chances of the wires getting snapped. If it happens, it will be devastating for the inhabitants of the area," said Khazir Mohammad, a commoner from the village Daharmunah, who was talked to by the Early Times. Khazir Mohammad was of the opinion that the technology has influenced every field of the man's life but the situation is altogether different as far as Budgam district is concerned which according to him has always received the step motherly treatment from the authorities. Some elderly people at soibugh Budgam, who were talked to by the Early Times said that it is only in the very recent past that a live hightension wire fell on the school building in the Shariefabad area of the Budgam district resulting in the death of the two school children . The situation after that incident, as according to these people tuned violent and the people even tried to set the receiving station on fire. As according to these people these people, the Power Development Department has learnt no lesson from that very particular incident because despite repeated assurances of the department, one can see no improvement on the ground. According to these people if this problem is not addressed on the priority basis then, there is worst in store for the people of the area. "It is not about the poor infrastructure only, the high tension wires pass through the trees all along the road from Soibugh to Wadwan, even more ahead. If a tree happens to fall on these live wires during the busy hours, then it won't be less than a calamity," said zahoor from Gotapora Budgam, whose views were sought by the Early Times. |
