APSCC criticizes Government | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 16: All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) has expressed dismay over the dual policy of state government while dealing with different communities of the state. The Committee has impressed upon for granting minority status to the Sikhs living in the state. In a statement, APSCC Chairman, Jagmohan Singh Raina has expressed surprise over the statement of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah that the state government is in constant touch with the central government over the granting of scheduled tribe category status to Paharis living in the state. "We are not against any community as far as awarding of benefits is concerned. But at the same time it a shame for the Chief Minister that despite repeated reminders he is yet to extend the benefits of National Commission for Minorities to the Sikhs in Jammu & Kashmir. He seems to be unmoved by the plight of Sikhs living in the state," Raina. Raina said that former Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh wrote to the Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister and asked him to accord minority status to the Sikhs living in the state. He said that Chairman National Commission for Minorities, Wajahat Habibullah met Omar Abdullah personally and asked him to implement the recommendations of the Commission in the state, but of no use. Raina said it is very shameful that the state government never took any step for implementing the recommendations of National Commission for Minorities in Jammu & Kashmir. He vowed to carry forward the struggle of giving the Sikhs of Jammu & Kashmir their basic rights. |
