Three of family among five killed as hillock cave in at Sidhra, many rescued

Jammu, Sept 6: Three of a family among five persons including two minors died after a hillock caved in Sidhra an outskirt area of Jammu city and many locals living at the foothill come under the rubble of a hillock today, police said.
The incident took place at Tutai Di Khui area in Sidhra after the ongoing heavy rains resulted into caving in of a hillock and five persons reportedly come under its debris. "The ill-fated people living in a Kucha (mud) house constructed in the compound of Stone Crusher fell prey to the rubble and sludge from hillock.
Police sources said, "The deceased have been identified namely as Ashok Kumar of Kathua, Sunil Kumar of Jharkhand his wife Seema Devi and their son Nehru (10) and another minor just two years."
"Soon after receiving information, a police team rushed to the spot and launched search cum rescue operation and traced bodies out from the rubble of hillock. After the reciovery of bodies the police team shifted them to the mortuary of Govt Medical College and Hospital ((GMC&H) Jammu.
Meanwhile many persons trapped in flas flood including 20 families of Israrabad in Sidhra, 5 persons from river Tawi near Sidhra bridge, 2 persons from Dugwell Chakrakwalan, 7 persons from Bajalta, 12 families from Kaintha Mohalla of Kannachhargal and 8 accident victims from Nandini have been rescued by teams of police from respective Police Stations namely Nagrota/Sidhra/Jhajjarkotli in assistance with locals as well as SDRF personnel during the day long rescue operations besides shifting them to safer places identified by the civil administration viz. Govt Middle School Mehla and New PCR complex Sidhra.
Police sources said that all out efforts are being carried out by police to timely open the NH-1A as well as other interiors roads by pressing into service of heavy machinery from AFCON's as well local resources.
