Nowshera bus mishap: 33 bodies recovered so far

RAJOURI, Sept 6: With the recovery of eight more bodies today, 33 bodies have so far been recovered from the river near Nowshera in which a bus of baratis had fallen two days back. In other flood-affected areas of Rajouri, Budhal and Darhal, army and civil authorities have so far rescued 727 persons. SDPO Nowshera said that exact number of Baratis traveling in the bus couldn't be ascertained as many of them were from Ludhiana , Poonch, Jammu , Rajouri and other places of the state and their families have not approached police till today.
He said as per the information provided by the inhabitants of Rajpur Kameela from where maximum baratis had come, more about 80 persons were travelling in the ill-fated bus.
Meanwhile, sources said that till 4 pm on Friday 64 cases of landsliding had been reported in the district in which 130 houses were damaged fully while 250 were partially damaged. 15 cattle were perished while 8 watermills were washed away in the flash floods.
21 persons have been killed till the filing of this report in the district excluding bus mishap in which about 70 persons are feared dead out of which 33 bodies have so far been recovered. Shakeel Singh resident of Khawas said that the entire area has been experiencing incessant rains for the last 6 days and more than 30 families have been shifted to safer places. He said 20 houses were fully damaged while 50 houses got cracks.
Power supply in many areas in the district including Rajouri city and its peripheral areas was disrupted on Wednesday night as more than 500 electric poles and about 20 transformers have either been damaged or swept away in the flash floods.
Inhabitants of Rajouri city , its adjoining areas and other places are facing acute shortage of drinking water and normal life has come to a standstill there as the power supply was not supplied for the last more than 45 hours.
