State lauds Army, Air Force for rescue, relief operations in flood hit areas | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 6 : The state Government agencies have conveyed their deep appreciation to the Army and the Air Force for carrying out rescue and relief operations on a massive scale during the ongoing severe floods in Jammu and Kashmir. In floods and landslides over 100 people have lost their lives and vast infrastructure stands damaged in various parts of Jammu and Kashmir. On the basis of inst ructions from the Ministry of Defence more than 85 columns of Army, fleet of MI-17 choppers, AN-32 aircraft of IAF and NDRF teams moved out for rescue operations across Jammu and Kashmir, flashfloods - biggest since 1959 - claimed 39 more lives yesterday in incidents of fresh house collapse and landslides. Official sources said that in case the inundated rivers and areas in the state showed no improvement additional columns of troops may be pressed into service for carrying out relief and rescue operations. Sources said that the IAF authorities have been told to increase their sorties for providing relief to people who stand cut of from the main roads and routes. The IAF has been told to fly additional choppers for evacuating people whop h ave been either marooned or stranded in flood hit villages. The officials of various state Government departments, including the police officials, have been told to remain in touch with the Army and the Air Force authorities so that whenever and wherever the need was felt for launching relief and rescue measures in very difficult and cut of areas a formal request be sent to the Army and Air Force. When compared to the region of Jammu the Kashmir valley has been battling against the flood fury. Thanks to the Army that has launched massive rescue mission to evacuate people from flood-affected areas across the Valley to safer places. The relief and rescue operation launched by the Army has been named as "Sahayata" (help). |
