Prioritize evacuation of people from flood hit areas: Monga to Govt

Srinagar, Sept 6: While expressing deep concern over the loss of life and damages caused by the floods and incessant rains across the Jammu and Kashmir especially in Baramulla and Uri areas of north Kashmir, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) vice president and MLC G N Monga Saturdayurged the state government to press emergency services to rescue the people caught in flood hit areas.
"Tough state administration has been doing a commendable job in providing relief and rescuing people in flood hit areas, still lot needs to be done as thousands of people are caught in floods. The government must prioritize evacuation of people from flood hit and flood prone areas in order to save people from the natural calamity," Monga said in a statement to press. He urged the government make all possible arrangements to prevent further loss of life in flood hit areas. "In Boniyar and Sheeri areas of Uri, there have been extensive damages due to the flash floods. Situation in upper reaches of Baramulla and Uri is worse. Government should focus on such areas which have remained away from the eyes of administration so far," he added. Monga appealed Congress workers to volunteer themselves for rescue work. "I appeal my party workers to help the administration in carrying rescue operations in their respective areas," he appealed.
The PCC vice president said that supply of essential commodities including fuel, ration and safe drinking water must be ensured in the most affected areas besides dewatering pumps be supplied to people till the rains are over.
