Flood hit people in Sherpathri, Pulwama demand services of Army | | | Srinagar, Sept 6: Though flood has created havoc in entire Kashmir Valley thousands of people in 24 villages of Sherpathri Ganderbal are facing nightmarish experience with two rivers Jehlum and Sindh flowing over danger mark and inundating vast area. The people have passed sleepless nights for last two days as some villages have marooned in flood water of Jehlum and Sindh rivers which flow from the area. The people are crying for their eviction but the district administration has failed to take effective measures. ``We are in open as flood waters are proceeding towards our village'' says Moulan Ghulam Qadir, Imam of Jama Masjid Quarad, Sherpathri. The people of 24 villages in Sherpathri area including Rabitar, Kurad and Gund are facing threat as some villages have marooned in flood waters and all the crops have perished in water, he added. Moulana said that the administration has failed to evict the people to safer places who are in open and demanded immediate allotment of tents and other safety measures to safeguard the lives of flood affected people. Criticising the district administration for its callousness he demanded pressing army into service to rescue people and shift them to safer places. The army is fully equipped in the job and they can only safeguard the lives of affected people, he added. He said immediate steps be taken to shift the people and cattel to safer places and people be allotted tents for shelter. Mir Ghulam Rasool a local leader while expressing concern over the authorities' failure to evict the people to safer places. He said the response from administration is totally negative to the woes of marooned people. He said the people are in totally distress and perturbed for the safety of their lives but authorities are unmoved and have failed to take measures of shifting people to safer places. He said the 24 villages of sherpathri are surrounded by Jehlum and Sindh rivers and both are in spate and flowing over danger mark but the authorities are totally unmoved and have failed to take safety measures. Meanwhile thousands of people in Pulwama district of South Kashmir are crying for help as flood waters have affected large number of villages in the district. Bashir Ahmed Wani a political leader from the district said that authorities have failed to take remedial measures to evict people to safer places or provide relief and start rescue operations. Wani said the administration and Government is looking as mute spectator and Flood Control Department is totally defunct in Valley. He demanded immediate rescue operations be started and people be shifted to safer places. He demanded army be pressed into service to evict the marooned people to safer places. |
