Road connectivity, water, power supply affected; mobile services remain unaffected | | | Sandeep Bhat
Jammu, Sept 6 : For the last three days it is continuously raining both in Jammu and Kashmir region and the valley is already flooded. Many parts are cut from Srinagar city which include Pulwama, Shopian, Anantnag, Kulgam, Pampore, Awan- tipura, Bijbeharra, Tral and many other parts of the valley. The people are facing many hardships and are confined to their houses as there is water logging everywhere. The river Jehlum is flowing above the danger level and has caused havoc among the inmates. The common masses are facing drinking water problems and at many places the power supply is affected from last three days both in Kashmir and Jammu region. In Jammu, people are facing huge curtailment of power and due to recent PHE employees' strike, the potable water was a major problem. The far flung areas of Jammu region also faced the fury of nature like in Rajouri, Noashera, Poonch, Mendhar, Ramban, Kishtwar and its surrounding areas. Despite all these problems, people were seen calling each other and sending SMSes through mobiles, as this was the only service which remain uneffected throughout the state. Talking to Early Times, Sheikh Bashir, a senior politician said that he is stranded in Srinagar but thank god, "I am able to talk to my family members in Jammu". This is the only service which is a hope under these conditions. A student from Kathua, who is in Srinagar for counselling said that my parents got worried for me when they heard that Kashmir is disconnected from the outer world due to floods as many bridges and roads got washed away, they immediately called me on mobile and asked about my welfare. If mobile services would have not been working, it would have been a nightmare but thanks to service providers who inspite of difficult conditions kept their services on. Same thing was echoed by others also who came from Rajouri, Poonch, Kishtwar apart from Jammu. The mobile phones came as a succour for the stranded people both at Srinagar and Jammu and where others services were affected, mobile service providers kept their services in place. |
