As flood waters recede train services resume between Katra, Udhampur | | | Early Times Report
KATRA, Sept 10: Train services resumed between Katra and Udhampur on Wednesday after they were halted earlier due to the deteriorating flood situation in Jammu & Kashmir. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Reasi Vivek Gupta confirmed to the media that almost all routes are fine as of now, but appealed to the people that if they are directed not to take a particular route, then they should follow it. He also said, "I want to appeal to people to confirm whether the route is right or not, because if it's fine then the recommendations will be done by the police or the board so that according to that the tour can be resumed. The shrine board, the police and other security agencies have done a lot of arrangements so that the people can conveniently complete their route." Incessant rain resulted in mudslides, flash floods and rising of water level in all rivers of Jammu & Kashmir, due to which flood waters and heavy boulders had jammed the train tracks, which had led to the cancellation of all services there. Around 200 people have died in what Prime Minister Narendra Modi has termed a 'national disaster'. Pulwama, Anantnag and Kulgam districts in south Kashmir have been the worst hit due to the calamity. |
