100 dead, 314 roads washed away, 489 water supply schemes nowhere
Rajouri district now completely shattered-1

JAMMU, Sept 10: Apart from more than 100 casualties including 63 members of a marriage party, 314 roads and 489 water supply schemes have either got damaged, washed away or blocked due to the recent flash floods and landslides in Rajouri district of Jammu region.
District administration of Rajouri has put the quantum of loss at Rs.163.85 crore and sought immediate release of around Rs.79.71 crore for temporary and Rs.84.13 crore for permanent restoration of the roads and various water supply schemes. In Rajouri Tehsil alone, 141 roads and 21 bridges/culverts have either got damaged or washed away. Roads and Buildings Department has put the loss at Rs.2638 Lakhs.
The damaged structures include 400 feet suspension bridge at Potha which was constructed at a cost of Rs. 400 lakhs. Nowshera Division of Roads and Buildings Department has officially communicated to the Divisional Commissioner's office that 69 roads have got badly damaged at various locations. They have demanded more than Rs.2085.53 lakhs for permanent as well as temporary restoration.
60 Roads which were constructed under Prime Ministers Grameen Sawrozgar Yojana (PMGSY) have either got blocked or washed away permanently at various locations in Rajouri Division while 44 similar roads have suffered same fate in Budhal division of PMGSY. The PMGSY wing has sought 2271.29 lakhs for restoration as well as reconstruction of these 104 roads.
In the 179 schemes and at around 528 spots, either reservoir or gravity main or supply lines have got washed away or buried under slides in Rajouri division of PHE department alone. In the same division, springs have gone under the debris with no trace left. Besides this, protection work of dug-wells and springs has either got washed away or permanently damaged. They have put the losses at Rs. 1265 lakhs.
In Nowshera division of PHE, reservoir or gravity main or supply lines have got washed away or buried under debris of around 100 schemes. 38 schemes of PHE Mechanical have also got washed away or permanently damaged in various parts of Rajouri and Nowshera division of the department. Irrigation Department in Rajouri division has lost more than 126 schemes to the flash floods. There is no trace of the schemes in the two divisions of Rajouri district.
Nowshera division of irrigation department has suffered immensely. 46 schemes have either got damaged or washed away. 4 pump houses of the mechanical wing of irrigation department have also got washed away. Flood control division of Rajouri has communicated to the Divisional Commissioner's office in Jammu of having lost 164 locations near various Nallas to flash floods and heavy rainfall. In Nowshera division, the department has suffered extensive damages at around 3 locations.
Irrigation mechanical construction division has shown loss of 2 lift irrigation schemes at Dehri Dharra and Likki Talla areas of Rajouri division. Power Development Department of Rajouri district has assessed losses at around 991 locations. At all these locations, around 5 poles alongwith allied material has got damaged. 120 sub-stations and 20 other stations have got washed away alongwith allied material. Two walls of the agriculture department have also got damaged.
230 classrooms in 123 schools have got damaged besides washing away of boundary walls of around 7 schools. 12 towers and 7 kilometres of 132KV line have got affected. 11 receiving stations,40 poles, 3 VCBs and 4 V&R Panel have got baldy affected in sub-transmission division (STD) Kalakote. The overall assessment for the district is that Rs.16385.09 lakh would be required for restoration.
