Army acts as 'midwife'; saves baby
9/10/2014 11:03:08 PM
Srinagar, Sept 10 : It was a mission that the Indian Army had never planned but conducted and completed successfully with a heart warming news --'it's a boy.'With thousands of distress calls received by the Army from various parts of Kashmir valley, this was the one from Pampore locality on the outskirts of Srinagar. Pampore was also completely submerged like any other part of the flood-hit Jammu and Kashmir.A lady was experiencing labour pains and crying but there was no one to help. Immediately after getting the SMS, the Army Aviation team swung into action and a mission 'Save Kashmiri baby' was quickly put in place. Rescue boats were dispatched to the locality from where the 24-year old expecting mother Arshida was to be evacuated. After Army jawans brought her to a safer place, she was airlifted to Badami Bagh Cantt by a chopper. Finally, she was admitted to the Base Hospital in Srinagar where she delivered the male baby.
