Expedite rescue ops in J&K: Azad | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 10 : Leader of Opposition and former union minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad on Wednesday wrote to Centre to expedite the rescue operation in flood-hit Jammu and Kashmir. After his three day long tour to various flood-hit areas of the state, Azad while addressing a press conference said that the swift response of centre government over the floods was a commendable job, but the rescue operation in the submerged Kashmir need to accelerate as valley is covered with water. Azad said that this has happened first time in the History of Kashmir, undoubtedly government is doing tremendous job, but to save the people, more choppers need to press in service as at every corner people are trapped seeking help, Azad added. He said that there is extreme need of boats, besides telecommunication should be restored at earliest. While lauding the role of Army, Air Force and Navy for offering selfless service to the people and stressed for the increase in number of troops to evacuate the people. He maintained that there may be shortage of space at the airport Srinagar, but state has another airbase in Awantipura, which can be used for accommodating more helicopters to speed up the rescue operations. He also urged the government to bring medical teams from outside the state to treat the people as entire machinery of government is collapsed. He although refused to make any statement on the casualties feigning it will create panic among the masses. |
