Petition writers, Photostat vendors turn vultures in Rajouri | Charge exorbitantly from relief seekers | | Rajouri, Sept 10 : At a time when humanitarian help is pouring in from across the country for the flood victims of the state, petition writers and Photostat machine owners in Rajouri are fleecing the victims by charging Rs 15 for relief form and Rs 50 for filling it. On getting this information Jatinder Singh, IAS, Deputy Commissioner rushed to tehsil office and after talking with victims found the compliant genuine and directed tehsildar to lodge FIR against such elements. 70 years old Madan Lal r/o Thudi and 65 years old Mohd Ashraf r/o Fatehpur said that they have paid Rs 30 for two forms and Rs 100 for filling these forms. Pertinent to mention that on Wednesday, the Deputy Commissioner had directed all the SDMs and tehsildars to visit the affected areas and prepare the lists of flood victims and their losses, but no such exercise has been undertaken on ground. To make the process of distributing relief fool proof and transparent and to avoid fake entries in the relief lists , Jatinder Singh, IAS, Deputy Commissioner Rajouri has directed all the tehsildars to hold meetings at village levels under their areas of operations. "The dates for such meetings will be announced by the concerned tehsildars and the process will be completed within a week so that the lists of actual victims can be prepared. Tehsildars will be accompanied by concerned BDOs, and agriculture officers" said Deputy Commissioner. In the past, Patwaris were authorized to prepare the list for reliefs due to natural catastrophe and most of the names of the relief were found fake and actual victims were denied their legitimate due. To avoid similar situation, the actual victims of flood furry will be able to register their names with concerned tehsildars this time. Meanwhile people at Manjakot, Kheora and at other places have staged protests alleging that no officer from district administration visited them till today. People have been asked to fill the forms and thousands among them have thronged tehsil offices in the absence of proper information regarding teams that would be visiting them at their places. Photostat owners and application writers eyeing the opportunity out of catastrophe were charging between Rs 15-20 for a single form and Rs 40-Rs50 for filling the forms. " Local army units have been providing tents,food and other necessary help to the people near Line of Control (LoC ) in Manjakot tehsil as most houses have either been fully or partially damaged and people taking shelter in army tents erected at safer places in the forests" said Mohd meena resident of Naka Panjgrain. Muzzafar Hussain sarpanch of village Triyth in Kalakot tehsil said that about 75 members of some families have taken refuge in middle school building at Triyath but officer from tehsil headquarter visited them."These people have been facing acute shortage of drinking water,food and power as they fear to go to their partially damaged houses" said muzzafar. Meanwhile Deepati Uppal , SDM , Nowshera has convened the meetings of all the tehsil officers and has constituted two teams which will be headed by Tehsildar , Nowshera and tehsilder, Qilla Darhal. These teams accompanied by respective BDOs and Agricultural officers will visit all the affective areas and will prepare the lists of losses from September 10 to September 16. Similar meetings were also held at Manjakot, Sunderbani , Thanamnadi, Kotranka, Budhal , Darhal and concerned officials were directed to prepare the actual losses caused due to recent flood fury. |
