Jammu, Sept 10: Expressing his grief over loss of human lives and properties in the unprecedented rains and floods in the whole State, patron of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today called for prompt administration action, co-operation with political and social groups across the country to save the people of Jammu and Kashmir from the catastrophe. He said that the whole country must rise as one to support the residents of Jammu and Kashmir in their hour of need.
In a statement issued here today, PDP patron lamented that the disaster of such magnitude-that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have never witnessed earlier, has so for claimed more than 200 lives and thousands and thousands were still caught in flooded areas and have been battling for survival and waiting to be rescued. Emphasizing on the co-operation from all sectors to cope up the prevailing grave situation in the State especially in Kashmir, Mufti said that there was a need to intensify the on-going rescue and relief operations by utilizing all resources in terms of finances, machinery, equipments and manpower.
PDP patron said that Rs 1100 Crores already at the disposal of the State Government under State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) should be immediately utilized without further delay to provide immediate relief to the affected people.
"The State of Jammu and Kashmir is confronting with worst ever natural calamity in the form of floods, biggest ever in the last 60 years", he said and demanded that more teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) should be deputed in the affected areas to evacuate the marooned people.
"There is a need to launch a comprehensive joint operation by the administrative machinery, the Army, the Air Force, the Navy and various other security forces to provide relief to the affected people", he demanded and added that disaster of such a huge magnitude has plunged state of Jammu and Kashmir into an unprecedented crises.
Hailing Prime Minister, Narendra Modi for visiting the State and reaching out to the affected people, Mufti said that announcement of Rs 1000 crores additional assistance to the State at this juncture was an appreciable step. "It is good that the entire country is behind the people of Jammu and Kashmir in dealing with the worst floods the state has seen in 60 years"., he said and added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's offer to provide all possible help to the people of other side of Kashmir, across the Line of Control (LoC) at this time of crisis was a nice gesture, which received a reciprocal response from Islamabad. "We appeal to the Governments, people, NGOs, Industrialist, National Disaster Management Agencies and other crisis related agencies to come forward for immediate help to the people of Jammu and Kashmir trapped into floods in Jammu & Kashmir regions", he said, adding, "We are in immediate need of Boats, tents and rubber boots to evacuate thousands and thousands of people from submerged areas where buildings have started to collapse".
