Alleged dowry case: Pregnant lady, her husband thrashed by in-laws family

Kathua, Sept 22: A three-month pregnant woman and her husband allegedly have been thrashed by other family members of her in- laws who were harassing her for dowry because of which duo suffered injuries and later were hospitalized at District Hospital (DH) Kathua.
According to police sources, a pregnant woman and her husband were allegedly beaten up by her in-laws at their resident Chadwal of Tehsil Hiranagar and the duo was later admitted at Govt District Hospital Kathua on Monday.
Quoting Vicky, the husband of the victim pregnant woman Archna, police sources said that her wife was brutally beaten up by his cousin, real brothers Bodh Raj and Bittu along with his father while demanding dowry. According the victim, the Vicky, initially my family members attacked on me and later they started beating my wife who is pregnant by three months. "After receiving brutal treatment from my family members I along with my injured wife Archna approached the Police Station Chadwal where police officer instead of registering our complaint, slapped to me and also used abusive language, he alleged.
He also said that thrashing of my pregnant wife, has taken toll of her health as she started collapse now and then which compelled me to get her admitted at District Hospital Kathua. He also lamented that he also had got his left ear injured and also have received multiple injuries during the thrashing and roughing up by my family members and the same (injuries) have been examined by the doctors.
While narrating his woeful tale, Vicky also told that his father, brothers and cousin called him out a day ago and showed their anger over the pile of garbage and asked him to get it cleared. "When I denied this outrightly saying this was not my fault, vickey said and added, "My father and brothers started beating me in full public view and when my wife intervened to rescue me they dragged her onto the street and punched and even kicked her.
He said, "Trouble started soon after his marriage as his parents and brothers allegedly started making demands for dowry from my wife. "They continued to make demands for dowry and even would harass me and my wife, Vicky alleged. "Though we have reported the matter to the police, but no action was taken against the culprits instead police threatened me and my wife," lamented Vicky.
SSP Kathua Mohan Lal when contacted briefly said if any police personnel is involved to treat this couple then the guilty will be punished accordingly as per the law.
