BJP begins search for prospective partner in J&K | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 20: The BJP high command has started the exercise of identifying its prospective alliance partner in J&K with the aim of forming next government in the state. "The central leadership of BJP has asked the state party unit to shortlist one or two parties which could be prospective coalition partners but doesn't bargain much. The BJP is keen that the wish-list of the prospective partners is analysed first and then middle path is made much before the elections," a senior BJP leader said. "The party is in a commanding position and Maharashtra and Haryana poll results have shown that people have reposed total faith in the party. The party doesn't want to go much into post poll deliberations and wants to set the agenda before hand," he added. The party has set the target of 44 plus seats in the coming J&K elections. The party leadership itself believes that it will not be possible to reach this target and will be needing a coalition partner. The party feels that going by the trends in the UP and now in Harayana it can win all almost all the seats in the Jammu region. But, there is rider on account of the fact that some seats in Jammu region have crucial Muslim voters who are in numerical advantage. It is because of this the party needs a partner. Its strategy is to rope in small parties and individuals who will not have much to bargain. "The main regional party's ideology is diametrically opposite to ours. And, it would not like to give in so easily. So, we are not focusing on other parties," said the leader. "In case, the support of some major J&K party becomes the necessity, the party will think over it. For this purpose only, the wish list is being prepared in advance," he added. |
