BMO Darhal organizes 'Iodine Deficiency Disorders'

Jammu, Oct 21: On the direction of Director Health Services Jammu and Chief Medical Officer Rajouri, Block Medical Officer Darhal today organized "Global Iodine Deficiency Disorder Prevention Day.
According to press release, BMO Darhal said that Iodine deficiency disorder (IDD) has been identifying all over the world with 1/3rd of the world population exposed to the risk of IDD. It was estimating that in India alone, more than 71 million people are suffering from goiter and other iodine deficiency disorders.
"Iodine is a micro-nutrient and required for the synthesis of the Thyroid hormones, Thyroxin (T4) and Triiodothyronine (T3). It is also essential for the normal growth, development and its deficiency causes Endemic goiter, Hypothyroidism, Cretinism, Decreased fertility rate, increased Infant Mortality and Mental Retardation"' said BMO. Prominent citizens, PRI, NGO members were also present on this occasion.
