KBA files PIL, seeks steps to check 'acid attack' incidents

Srinagar, Dec 15: Expressing its serious concerns over the recent 'acid attack' reported from valley leaving people shocked and fairer sex traumatized, the Kashmir High Court Bar Association has filed a Public Interest Litigation before J&K High Court, seeking directions to take steps to check the menace of acid throwing in the state. Immediately, the Bar association seeks directions by the court for investigation by SIT into acid attack on a law student at Nowshera in Soura on December 11.
"The investigation of the case shall also be monitored on weekly basis. The Investigating Team shall also be directed to submit the progress of investigation on weekly basis to the Court, so that appropriate orders are passed from time to time in the matter," General Secretary of the Association said.
He also mentioned that the respondents be also directed to pay Rs 3 lakhs to the victim forthwith, so that she receives minimum medical attention and is able to meet the expenses in that regard. The Bar Association also seeks direction for implementation of the directions, guidelines passed by the Supreme Court in case Laxmi Vs Union of India.
PIL also had sought directions to amend the J&K Criminal Procedure Code and insert the provision of like Section 357-A of Central Code of Criminal Procedure therein and also prepare a scheme for providing funds to the victim or dependents who had suffered loss or injury as a result of the crime. KBA maintained that it shall also be directed to take immediate necessary steps in getting the order of the Supreme Court translated in the vernacular and besides publicizing the same for the information of the public at large. "All the District Magistrates of the State should be directed to follow the guidelines, directions of the Supreme Court in letter and spirit and ensure that no acid is sold to any person in violation of the guidelines/ directions of the Supreme Court," KBA General Secretary added.
